This Winter's cold weather has set our minds to planning the 2009 Barracuda programme of dive trips and holidays.

After many years of great holidays diving in the Egyptian Red Sea, we thought we would offer a change this year.  The reason (apart from variety) comes down to costs getting out of hand. A look at the 2009 prices from basic holiday travel and accommodation, through to the cost of extra dives, licence fees, decompression fees, additional guide fees - all this can add around £200 by the end of your holiday.

So with the aim of providing excellent diving at an affordable price, your intrepid Barracuda friends have just come back from Lanzarote, which we find is an excellent alternative to our usual Red Sea fare.

For experienced divers, Lanzarote diving couldn't be easier. No matter how many dives you book, you can decide what you want to do on the day. Options include guided dives, shore dives, boat diving or just doing your own thing. The house reef is just outside the bay and there is a gentle slope down to the top of the reef at about 18m after which it drops off to the first shelf at around 30m.

The first thing that we love about this dive area is the location of the dive centre. It is right on the beach, convenient for those diving and also making for a much better experience for the non-divers too (no waiting around for your other half to finish diving!) who can enjoy a spot of sun-bathing, snorkeling or just playing with the kids in the sheltered bay.

Looking to learn?
A great advantage of the location for this trip is the small and sheltered bay in front of the dive centre, This is ideal for Open Water training. If you want to learn to dive, then this is the place to complete the open water part of the course. Just book on an Open Water Diver training course with Barracuda, do the theory and swimming pool work here in Nottingham and finish off your course in lovely, warm and clear water. If you wish, you can do the whole course in Lanzarote. Either way, once you have qualified, you can then finish off the week with some really good diving!

Dates

We will be flying from Birmingham Airport on the 27th August 2009 and returning on the on the 3rd September - (flight times to follow).

Diving arrangements

The dive centre is located on the beach, only a short walk away from the accommodation. On the first day you will be picked up with your kit and after that day's diving your kit may be left at the shop - so no need to worry about lugging dive kit around.
There are no extra costs once you have booked your diving package. You can enjoy guided, shore or boat dives or even go and do your own thing (experienced divers only) with weights and cylinders included. Dive kit can also be hired
at the dive shop.

Accommodation

We shall be staying at the Aquarius self-catering apartments in the old town of Porto Del Carman, just off the main square and harbour. There is a large pool, a pool bar, restaurant and bar. The old town of Porto Del Carman has plenty of things to keep you occupied, with its harbour area full of great fish restaurants, bars and shops. If you want to explore the island, there are lots of sights to see and touristy things to do.

Cost

The cost will be £395.00 for flights and 7 nights' accommodation. Transfers are not included, but the dive centre will arrange these for the group and the cost will not break the bank. The diving is very flexible, you can book for between 1 and 6 days diving on this trip. The cost for an 8 dives package is £200.

What you need

For a qualified diver you will need to bring your qualification card or log-book with two recent logged dives, an up to date medical diving certificate and diving insurance certificate.

For students on courses, you will require diving insurance (which can be obtained as part of your travel insurance).

Dive equipment is available to hire from Barracuda beforehand if required.
